As expected, the Pittsburgh Steelers will be without star running back Le’Veon Bell again this week.
The news comes as little surprise following the team’s decision to remove him from the depth chart ahead of a matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs, and Bell, who has not reported to the team yet to sign his franchise tender and begin playing in 2018, has offered no indication regarding when he might be ready to do so.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Bell had until 4 p.m. on Saturday to come and sign the agreement. Since he did not, he forfeited another week’s worth of pay, and that total now tops $1.7 million after he skipped a season-opening tie against the Cleveland Browns, as well.
Pittsburgh was happy with what it got out of backup James Conner in a starting role last week, and he’ll be the first-team ballcarrier again in the home opener.
